Chengdu – June 30, 2025 – The 2025 China·Chengdu Tianfu Greenway International Cycling Race (hereafter “Tianfu Greenway Cycling Race”) successfully concluded on June 28-29 across Chengdu’s Ring Ecological Zone and Eastern New Area’s Sancha Lake.

A peloton of 96 elite cyclists from 16 global teams – including hosts Chengdu DYC Continental Team, Germany Squad, Australia’s Triumph-Bardiani CSF, Estonia’s Team Ampler, and Thailand’s LUX Cycling – joined amateur riders conquering the 100km greenway. Traversing 78 signature bridges and 121 ecological parks, participants experienced Chengdu’s dual identity as a nationally renowned historical city and a model “Park City” demonstrating human-nature harmony. The event epitomized Chengdu’s innovative “Ecology + Sports + Consumption” development paradigm.

The race commenced on June 28 at Chengdu’s Guixi Ecological Park with opening ceremonies presided over by Chinese Cycling Association officials.

Team Time Trial: Chengdu DYC Claims Inaugural Victory

As Chengdu’s first self-developed international cycling brand event, the race themed “Ride Run Chengdu” activated the city’s “Cycling-Running Capital” identity through its triple focus on ecology, sports, and consumption.

At 9:30 AM, Chengdu DYC Continental Team launched first with subsequent teams departing at 4-minute intervals. Each six-rider squad competed in the team time trial format, with the fourth finisher’s time determining team results.

After intense competition, Chengdu DYC dominated with a winning time of 1:59:48 (avg. 50.09 km/h). Triumph-Bardiani CSF (2:03:19) and Hengsheng-VONOVA-Taishan Sports Continental Team (2:04:09) secured podium finishes.

“Perfect course, brilliant organization!” exclaimed Triumph-Bardiani’s Will Heath post-race. “Cycling through these greenways must be idyllic for locals. I’d love to explore Chengdu properly.”

Concurrently, Guixi Park hosted children’s balance bike competitions, injecting youthful energy into the event with budding riders showcasing skills on professional tracks.

Greenway Economy Fuels Integrated Development

The Tianfu Greenway – a 16,930km planned emerald network (over 9,000km completed by 2024) – now connects 11 urban districts. Its 2025 course spotlighted 78 architecturally distinctive bridges and 121 parks, allowing competitors to experience Chengdu’s “park-within-reach” ecological philosophy.

The “greenway economy” ecosystem generated significant impact:

  • 2024 race attracted 60 million annual visitors to the ring greenway
  • 14.26 million cyclists drove “event + tourism + consumption” growth
  • Sports facilities expanded to include rowing/equestrian clubs alongside traditional venues
  • Jan-May 2025 sports consumption along greenways surged 30% YoY
  • Niche sectors like balance bike training grew 42%

An on-site cycling carnival featured activations by official partners including ANTA, CR Snow Beer, Luzhou Laojiao, Dongfeng Motor, and Chengdu Rural Commercial Bank. Spectators enjoyed sports retail, cultural products, health foods, and artisanal coffee – extending competitive excitement into lifestyle experiences.

Elite Showdown at Sancha Lake World Games Venue

Stage 2 relocated to Eastern New Area’s “Pearl of Tianfu” Sancha Lake (2025 World Games motorboating venue) starting at Chengdu Sport University’s eastern campus. Weather adjustments shortened the course to 124.5km with four lake circuits and added sprint points.

Despite rain and headwinds, Chengdu DYC’s Ivanov formed a five-rider breakaway, securing two intermediate sprints to claim the blue sprint jersey. The chasing peloton closed the gap but couldn’t prevent the break’s victory. Ivanov triumphed in 2:42:58, seizing both the overall leader’s green jersey and sprint title. Triumph-Bardiani’s Campbell placed second while Hengsheng’s Guo Liang earned third and the white jersey as top Chinese rider.

Having now run consecutively for three years, the Tianfu Greenway Cycling Race transcends sports to become a dynamic showcase of Chengdu’s evolution as a world-class competition capital and ecological pioneer – cementing its status as China’s premier cycling-running destination.
